We had the privilege of being part of the AHEM! Art Collective Gallery opening night in Observatory, Cape Town on the 13th of April 2017. AHEM! is the first gallery focused on concept and illustration art, featuring artists from around the world. The event was also part of the bigger ART Thursdays in OBS initiative, similar to the First Thursday event in Cape Town and Johannesburg. During the event, art galleries and cultural attractions stay open ’til late every first Thursday of the month, to promote art and culture in the city.
The turnout for the launch was wonderful, with people queuing outside just to get into the gallery. Framing Place, across the street, was kind enough to give us their floor space for the evening. We set up a live Tilt Brush demo on the HTC Vive, with artist Lynton Levengood from The Modern Dragon showing off his skills by spending about 3 hours inside the Tilt Brush app, creating two awesome 3D dragon sketches. We had a live YouTube stream of the event as well. You can watch the short video above of Lynton creating a dragon.
When you’re in the area, go pop in and say hi to some very friendly people, and check out all the awesome art on display at AHEM! — 77 Lower Main Road, Observatory, Cape Town.
